GM FLAVIO BEHRING & PATRICK BITTAN (2001)
He started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1947, at the age of 10, with Helio Gracie as his teacher, 8th dan of Jiu-Jitsu at 64 years old (today 9th), undefeated to this day, Flavio Berhing has more than 50 years of practice (2001). For this pioneer, one thing is clear: Jiu-fitsu is above all a martial art, a self-defense method and a formidable educational tool. Invited to Paris by Patrick Bittan, he gave an exclusive interview to Ceinture Noire.

Lineage and Heritage in Jiu Jitsu
Why it is important to learn martial arts with a master, to have a lineage, with the founders, to have a heritage,
Martial arts are more than just fighting techniques. They are also a spiritual and philosophical practice that encourages personal development and inner growth. For this reason, learning martial arts from a master, having a lineage, from the founders, having a legacy is important for several reasons, which we will explore in the following pages.
First, an experienced teacher can guide a student in their practice, providing advice, correction and encouragement. Martial arts are often difficult to learn, and a good master can help a student overcome obstacles and progress quickly. Additionally, a master can impart knowledge and experiences that are not available in textbooks or online videos. By learning directly from a master, a student can gain a deeper and more nuanced understanding of martial arts practice.
Second, having a lineage in martial arts can give a student a sense of belonging to a tradition and community. Martial arts have a long history dating back hundreds of years, and current practitioners are the heirs of this tradition. By learning with a master who can trace his lineage back to the founders of the martial arts, a student can feel connected to that history and culture. This can strengthen the student’s motivation to continue practicing martial arts, because he or she feels part of a larger tradition.

Bittan Academy Marbella Wins 20 Medals at Valencia World Cup

**Valencia, Spain** – Bittan Academy Marbella put in an exceptional performance at the Valencia World Cup, winning a total of 20 medals, competing in 14 finals.
This feat included 7 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals, cementing the academy’s reputation as one of the best martial arts and combat sports training facilities in the world.🌎
We managed to come in 6th place in the best Academies at the Grappling No-Gi World cup, and our teenagers managed to win 9th place.
This really bodes well for the future.
